So I started on a quest to make some covers for my shop- the first ones were lovely in gold or rainbow but they were made from cotton and it didn't take long for a corner to get worn out leaving a hole.<br />
<br />
So I have switched to hemp, and these have proven very popular, especially thanks to a wonder dancer called Jordan who is from Vancouver but spent a year plus in Suhaila's school in California.<br />
<br />
I made a couple in 6 strand- I bet they will take YEARS to wear out, if they ever do!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Dancers like colourful things, so rainbow was still a popular request. Here are my latest, in a 3strand hemp - softer and finer, but still very durable<br />

Should I donate to a hospital or charity? I haven't quite decided yet.<br />
<br />
One part of having an Etsy shop is reviewing favourite items. Two items that have been favourited multiple times are the bunny slippers for a rabbit:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h4AvcRPvETg/VpqQ92rbcTI/AAAAAAAAAWs/CNC1MgxzMWE/s1600/Rabbit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h4AvcRPvETg/VpqQ92rbcTI/AAAAAAAAAWs/CNC1MgxzMWE/s320/Rabbit.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(sold one pair) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8_TP5AYbnvo/VpqRAP__6qI/AAAAAAAAAW0/ccGn1FbsrcI/s1600/RAbbitShoes.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8_TP5AYbnvo/VpqRAP__6qI/AAAAAAAAAW0/ccGn1FbsrcI/s320/RAbbitShoes.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this mermaid tail (not yet sold): </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NdOVZU-1qqU/VpqRK_lMclI/AAAAAAAAAW8/-exVrEsL9-Q/s1600/MermaidTail-s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NdOVZU-1qqU/VpqRK_lMclI/AAAAAAAAAW8/-exVrEsL9-Q/s320/MermaidTail-s.jpg" width="217" /></a></div>
It's still early in the year, and I'm playing around and experimenting with what I can make and sell which would be a reasonable price for you to buy and worth it for me to make. I've made some slippers that took so much time, I really should sell them for $60+ but not too many people want to pay that for slippers. Just like knitted socks, most people only knit them for themselves or family members and the yarn itself can easily cost $25 and that doesn't include the knitting time. I get plenty of requests for leg warmers - but again, the time to hand knit them compared to the cost people pay just don't match up<br />
<br />
I guess that's the million dollar question for any artisanal business, isn't it? These are the same pattern as the blue ones, but they are made from a very different yarn. This yarn in 75% wool and 24% silk - they make a very nice 3 season glove and are actually fairly dressy too. They are perfect for coastal climates like Vancouver , or the Pacific Northwest (or Amsterdam, or.... )<br />
<br />
They are also currently in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/263308338/green-wristers-gauntlets-ladies-rts?ref=listing-shop-header-1">shop</a>:<br />

They are made with a bulky yarn and are very nice and toasty. And don't fret, if you live in a climate where it's still a little too cold right now, you can layer them over some gloves until it warms up for you.<br />
<br />
I am very pleased with the colour - they are not just a regular 'navy' blue - they are more of a deep indigo, similar to the colour of brand new dark jeans.<br />
<br />
If you are interested in them, they are currently in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/263205907/indigo-blue-wristers-gauntlets-ladies?ref=listing-shop-header-0">shop</a>:<br />

Unfortunately he took almost the whole weekend to make (lots of fiddly little details) but now that he's done, he was so worth it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Do you want one too? <br />
<br />
I can't sell this one because the pattern's author doesn't allow it, but I still had to make this adorable bunny. And I gave her a wading pool to lay in. She's ready for the next heat wave. Yes we needed rain to slow down our forest fires burning, but come on sun, come back to us - we're ready<br />
<br />
If you'd like to make one for yourself, here's the <a href="http://www.cuteandkaboodle.com/patterns/sunny-bunny/">link</a>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17391558659637533596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8816993144620350235.post-19678816990832493432015-07-21T10:12:00.000-07:002015-07-21T10:12:00.238-07:00Barefoot Sandals <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1qaDPmouI10/VaLJ0r0szpI/AAAAAAAAAUs/VZ6fqnDD6Wg/s1600/GreenBarefoot-8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1qaDPmouI10/VaLJ0r0szpI/AAAAAAAAAUs/VZ6fqnDD6Wg/s320/GreenBarefoot-8.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />

Barefoot sandals are perfect for the beach, for a beach wedding, for festivals, stage performances etc. <br />
<br />
They can be worn alone, under or over flip flops or with other shoes. A fun way to decorate your pretty feet especially in this summer heat. Why not show off that lovely pedicure!!<br />
<br />
They are currently available in my shop (click on the link to the right of this post)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17391558659637533596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8816993144620350235.post-17196165108448739582015-07-20T08:09:00.000-07:002015-07-20T08:09:11.767-07:00Coming soon... Progress on a red and white chevron cowl is coming along but is a little slow. The gorgeous summer weather has me doing other things first. I hope to have a photo to show you by the end of the week.<br />
<br />
And then I have some other projects I should complete. I don't usually like to have a bunch of projects half-way finished but when I was going through my stash, I discovered about 4 that need to be completed. I'd better get them crossed off the list soon too.<br />
<br />
More photos and fun to follow soon.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17391558659637533596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8816993144620350235.post-13598112743356751662015-07-19T10:41:00.000-07:002015-07-19T10:41:00.037-07:00Baby Sandals<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iTJe_yGu-As/VaLCjMGEnMI/AAAAAAAAAUc/-MhS2sPZZts/s1600/BabySandals.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iTJe_yGu-As/VaLCjMGEnMI/AAAAAAAAAUc/-MhS2sPZZts/s320/BabySandals.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />

<br />
I made these for a friend of mine who's little girl is 10 months old, I can't wait to see sweet little baby toes in these flip flop sandals.<br />
<br />
Yes that is an almost neon-coral colour. I think it will look great in the bright summer sun.<br />
<br />
I hope she will send me a photo of her baby wearing them, so I can show you wheat they look like.<br />

I have made several already, here are a couple - the one on the left, I called 'creature' as I have no idea what it could be, but I still think it's cute.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b5PQd-fYGdI/VaK19_5ZJII/AAAAAAAAATQ/NTAvhM2UNZo/s1600/Creature%253Dhat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b5PQd-fYGdI/VaK19_5ZJII/AAAAAAAAATQ/NTAvhM2UNZo/s1600/Creature%253Dhat.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And of course, I'm sure everyone knows a Minion: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m-3rEKRo5Tk/VaK2Lq7ecoI/AAAAAAAAATY/xZAfwgOaWhs/s1600/minion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m-3rEKRo5Tk/VaK2Lq7ecoI/AAAAAAAAATY/xZAfwgOaWhs/s1600/minion.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then there's this sweet pear that takes on it's shape once it is on the pill bottle: </div>

Here's a cute little (5" long x 4.5" tall) camouflage service dog ready to be hung on your backpack or sit on your mantle - or maybe hold an engagement ring? To remember someone serving or who has served? Or just a safe hunting dog? Has a brown and green ribbon collar, sewn in eyes and a felt nose.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AFXF_1EoRMs/VaKpVitUIJI/AAAAAAAAASM/hWr9OCKEprM/s1600/retro%2Brainbow%2Btrout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AFXF_1EoRMs/VaKpVitUIJI/AAAAAAAAASM/hWr9OCKEprM/s320/retro%2Brainbow%2Btrout.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">This is the tail I made, but I only put the strip on one side so if you wanted to use if for photography purposes, you would just turn it around and use the plain side. To make it more fishy, I ran a shimmery iridescent rainbow filament along the wool during the crocheting so it glimmers and shines</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ThDH83zDSUQ/VaKqPuRZbcI/AAAAAAAAASU/mrwf6DjtR0A/s1600/RainbowTrout-front-s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ThDH83zDSUQ/VaKqPuRZbcI/AAAAAAAAASU/mrwf6DjtR0A/s320/RainbowTrout-front-s.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>

If you are a crocheter (or a TV Sitcom watcher), I am sure you will enjoy it.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;">Although I like the black border on many of them, I do really like the fresh springy look when a white border and bright colours are used. Just google the words "granny square afghan" and you will see that literally thousands of variations have been done. The blanket has been made by many crocheters across the world of 40+ years.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsnCw-ZcXaLnDHTTaV-2zAc6HMOmgHPcPpY8jBd1i4GQKLAGmisg3rzVuz6ExH4QF6kEBqEnF0sUHIdO3aFlgzp8nX0_w3xas6B7bPMRhmMZNm-_mBAn939OJNBCIB2nm99SLtxwW1wh3-/s1600/babette.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="background-color: white; clear: right; color: #0033a9; float: right; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-decoration: none;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsnCw-ZcXaLnDHTTaV-2zAc6HMOmgHPcPpY8jBd1i4GQKLAGmisg3rzVuz6ExH4QF6kEBqEnF0sUHIdO3aFlgzp8nX0_w3xas6B7bPMRhmMZNm-_mBAn939OJNBCIB2nm99SLtxwW1wh3-/s1600/babette.jpg" style="-webkit-box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.498039) 1px 1px 5px; background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: none; box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.498039) 1px 1px 5px; padding: 8px; position: relative;" /></a><span style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;">There are two other styles of aghans that I really like. One, I guess, could be considered a variation of the granny square. It is called the Babette. I love it because of the large and small squares and the way the colours are exchanged from one square to another. If I was going to make an afghan, I think I would start with the Babette. Here's just one example of one still in the process. This is probably about 1/4 of a full blanket.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;">The second style I like, currently flying off people's hooks right now, is the 'graphghan". This is where an image is charted out and then the whole afghan is crocheted like a large pixelated image. Again, you have to google it to see the incredible pool of talent and variations that have been done - everything from Walter White of Breaking Bad, to Disney princesses, sports team and college logos, to images of pets or family members. Computer programs and/or apps can help you create your own personalized images and some will even chart out the colours you need.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" /><br />

Of course there are many, many other styles of afghans done including Tree of Life, Ripple and the list goes on. Did you have one in your house? Or do you currently have one? What's your favourite TV afghan? </div>

<br />
Last year I knit and crocheted my little heart out and continued to steadily fill orders until March. It was glorious! After that I took some time to get ready for my trip with my mom to Holland and France. Then I had a big dance show to prepare for, and worked on some other projects - a sweater for my mom and some socks etc<br />
<br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" />

Since it is only 6 months away and I my selling cut of is around the beginning of December, so there is time to ship it. I would dearly love to bake in the sun all day but apparently there's this thing called skin cancer that scares the bejesus out of me. So I can only sit in the hot hot heat for a while and then I must sit in the shade. There you will find me knitting or crocheting.</span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #323232; font-family: 'Josefin Sans'; font-size: 15.4559993743896px; line-height: 25.7599983215332px;" />

The last couple of ideas I had were scooped by others or something in the news happened that changed how people would receive the item - I shouldn't procrastinate.
